Sparkle Kingdom is a walk-around reading adventure with no fighting in it. You meet a shy creature hiding in the flowers, and every word you read to it fills up its hearts.

It starts out nervous and looking away. A few words later it’s curious, then smiling, and when its hearts are full it has hearts for eyes and comes along as your friend.

How You Play

  • Make your princess and choose a first best friend: a white tiger cub, a rainbow dolphin or a baby unicorn.
  • Walk through the flower beds until a shy friend pops out, or tap the shell at the water to call a sea friend.
  • Read to it. Some rounds show a word and you tap the matching picture. In others a voice says a sentence and you find the word you heard.
  • Prefer it quiet? Turn voices off on the title screen and nothing is spoken: every question becomes a word to match to its picture, or a picture to match to its word.
  • When its hearts are full, find its name and it joins your sticker album. Your favorite follows you around the map.
  • Make friends with each land’s grumpy guardian to open the gate to the next land, and spend the gems you earn on gowns, crowns and wings at the boutique.

What Kids Practice

  • Decoding real words, introduced in phonics order, from short words like “mop” up to “butterfly” and “watermelon”.
  • Reading for meaning. On the silent rounds nothing is spoken, so the only way to the right picture is to read the word.
  • Listening for a word in a sentence, which helps kids who are just getting started.
  • Extra practice on hard words. Words a player misses come back more often until they stick.

Nothing to Lose

A wrong answer makes the creature a little shy, then the right answer lights up so a child can try again. Nobody gets hurt and no progress is lost, so it’s a calm game for a kid who gets upset by losing.

Every creature, tree and castle is pixel art drawn by code, with no image files. It’s vibe-coded, which means it was built by describing it in plain words to an AI, in this case Claude, and trying it out until it was right.

Questions About Sparkle Kingdom

What Age Is Sparkle Kingdom For?

It’s made for kids about 3 to 9. The words start short and easy and get harder in later lands, and a voice talks kids through the game, so those still learning their letters can play with a grown-up nearby.

Is Sparkle Kingdom Free?

Yes. There’s nothing to buy, no sign-up and no pop-up ads. The gems in the game are earned by making friends.

Is There Any Fighting?

No. Reading fills up a creature’s hearts instead of doing damage, and every encounter ends with a new friend or a friendly goodbye.

Does It Teach Phonics?

Yes. The words follow the same phonics order as Munch, our learn-to-read game, and each new land brings in the next sounds.

Does It Work on a Phone or Tablet?

Yes. It runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install. Turn the sound on, because the voice is a big part of the game.

Does It Save Progress?

Yes. Progress saves in the browser on the device you’re playing on, with no account needed. Clearing your browser’s data or switching devices starts a new game.
